Clawback (commission reversal)
A clawback takes back a commission after the sale behind it is refunded, charged back or rejected. A fair one takes back only the refunded share, and takes the recruiter’s override and the platform’s fee back with it.
Also called: reversal, commission reversal, chargeback reversal, clawback.
Worked example: $40 refunded on a $100 sale
- Partner: 20% commission
- $20 → $12
- Recruiter: override
- $5 → $3
- ViralPayouts fee
- $2.50 → $1.50
In more detail
Before payout, a clawback just lowers what the partner is about to be paid. After payout, the partner owes it back, usually out of future commissions.
How ViralPayouts handles it
Refunds write reversing entries in proportion; nothing is edited or deleted. After payout the balance shows an amount to recover. A brand rejecting a sale must give a listed reason, and after the hold only fraud.
